## Short card blurb (≈40 words)

A tool that turns an election’s candidate list into a single neutral review video:
every candidate gets equal time, a sourced bio, and rights-cleared footage, grouped by
party with skip-to chapters. Built to inform voters without spin, sponsorship, or
favouritism.

## Project description (≈110 words)

**Auto Candidate Profiles** automatically produces one neutral “meet your candidates”
video for an election. Each candidate gets identical screen time, a short factual
sourced bio, and a clip — drawn only from rights-cleared sources (official uploads,
Creative Commons, or public-domain government footage), with a still photo as a fallback
so no candidate is left out. Segments are grouped by party with a colour-coded progress
bar and YouTube chapters, so a viewer can review everyone or skip to who they care
about. An opening notice keeps it transparent: it’s auto-generated, sourced, and not an
endorsement. The goal is simple — give every voter an even, no-spin look at who’s on
their ballot, for races that usually get no coverage at all.

## Feature list (for a bullets section)

– **Equal time by design** — every candidate gets the same format and duration; bios are
neutral, sourced, and the same length.
– **Rights-cleared footage only** — official/permitted uploads → Creative Commons →
public-domain government footage → still image fallback. No scraped clips.
– **Skip-friendly** — colour-coded progress bar per candidate and chapter markers to jump
straight to anyone.
– **Transparent** — opening disclaimer covers auto-generation, sourcing, and neutrality;
sources listed in the description.
– **Localised** *(in progress)* — audio and on-screen text rendered in the native
language of each election’s country.
– **Hands-off pipeline** *(in progress)* — checks the election calendar and builds the
video automatically a week or two before each vote.

## Role / build notes (edit to taste)

– **Concept & design:** original idea, neutrality-first editorial rules, video format.
– **Build:** Remotion (programmatic React video), Node data pipeline, text-to-speech
voiceover, YouTube Data API for publishing; scheduled locally.
– **Status:** working v1 — single-election render pipeline complete; localisation and
automated scheduling in progress.
